How to Enhance any Space with Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a decorative element which I love using to make a statement in specific areas. There are many styles and designs to choose from, plus many different types including printed paper, vinyl (textured and metallic), non-woven and grass cloth.

Some are applied with glue, some are pre-glued and others are peel and stick (which to be honest, on large areas can be annoyingly difficult!)

When or Where to consider using Wallpaper

  1. On the headwall of a bedroom as a focal point.
  2. In a small boring guest loo, perhaps on all the walls to create an interesting cocooning effect.
  3. Along one wall of an otherwise boring passage.
  4. An entrance hall could be made more welcoming and inviting with wallpaper. Depending on the size of the space, all four walls or just one wall and the ceiling can be covered in wallpaper.
  5. Up one wall of a stairwell creates a cheerful journey to the upstairs.
  6. In a dining room wallpaper can create a convivial atmosphere for those lazy Sunday lunches or family dinners.
  7. Use wallpaper on cupboards, either on the outside doors or on the inside back panels, to uplift and enhance.

If you are on a tight budget use wallpaper very strategically – you don’t need to use in quantity to create interest. There are some very affordable paper wallpapers which you can purchase from Builders Warehouse (such as the Fired Earth Range) but take into account buying extra for what you need (for pattern matching or slight mishaps) as they sell out very quickly; and if you have any rolls left over they do take returns.

You can also buy inexpensive papers on-line where there may be a better choice:

Seamless Wallpapers

Scenographic seamless wallpapers can be custom made to fit the exact size of your walls. These have really gained in popularity and have an amazing impact on creating a room with ‘mood’.

Choose wallpapers that are compatible with the space, and those that don’t overwhelm, as you will want the complete pattern to be seen to be appreciated.

Wallpapers can also be chosen to camouflage slight imperfections or to create a different visual perspective, for e.g. ‘heightening’ the ceiling, ‘lowering’ a ceiling, etc. Therefore, wallpaper presents itself as a quick solution to giving a room a totally new look and feel! The change is almost instant and besides that, it can be fun to do!
